Career

College (2001 to 2005)

Before Tanisha Wright moved to the WNBA, she played from 2001 to 2005 as point guard for the women's basketball team at Pennsylvania State University . In total, she came to 134 missions for the university, and she was in the starting lineup 126 times. In her first three years she was a huge support to Kelly Mazzante , the star of the team. After Mazzante moved to the WNBA in 2004, Wright led the team in their senior season. In her last season she had an excellent average of 19.3 points per game. She achieved a total of 1,995 points for the university. She also received several awards. She was elected to the First Team USBWA All-American , among other things , and she was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year three times .

WNBA (since 2005)

Wright was drawn in twelfth place in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the reigning champions of the Seattle Storm . Actually, she should take the position of substitute player for Betty Lennox in her rookie season 2005 . After Lennox was injured, she advanced to the Storm starting lineup in August 2005. This month she averaged 7.8 points per game and hit 58.8% of her throws from the field. Wright finished her first season with an average of 3.6 points per game. In the two following seasons, she was still mostly used as a substitute player. During the 2008 season she finally made it into the starting lineup. As a result, she got more playing time, which was also reflected in her statistics for this season. Wright set a new personal record in all these areas with an average of 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 7.9 points per game. On January 7, 2009, Brian Agler , head coach of Storm, announced that Wright's contract had been renewed. From the 2009 season, Wright was almost always in the starting lineup of the Storm and was able to achieve their career highs this year with an average of 32.5 minutes and 12.2 points. The great team success was still missing. She failed for the fifth time in a row with the team in the first playoff round. This came in the 2010 season when the Storm team won the WNBA championship for the second time. After the championship, the following three seasons ended again with defeats in the first playoff round. In the 2014 season, she missed the playoffs for the first time. After ten seasons in Seattle, Tanisha Wright played for New York Liberty in her hometown from the 2015 season . There, too, she was almost always in the starting five and reached the playoffs with the team as the best team in the Eastern Conference in both seasons, but failed there prematurely. After she did not play any games in the WNBA in the 2017 season , she was active for the team of the Minnesota Lynx in 2018 . There she was used mainly as a supplementary player and failed with the team in the playoff prematurely.

Up to this point, she played in 13 WNBA seasons in the regular season 426 games, she was 287 times in the starting lineup and scored 3177 points, 1104 rebounds and 1296 assists. In 36 playoff games (28 of them in the starting line-up) she scored 353 points, 108 rebounds and 118 assists.

Europe

During the WNBA season break, Tanisha Wright plays like many WNBA players in Europe. She was on the field for teams from Israel, France, Cyprus, Poland and Turkey. Most recently she played for Agü Spor Kayseri's Turkish team in the 2016/17 season .

National team

Although Wright played successfully with the United States junior national team, she did not appear in any major tournament for the United States women's national basketball team. With the US team she won the 2003 Women's Basketball World Championships .
