The Taritatu is a river in New Guinea in the Indonesian province of Papua . During the Dutch colonial era, explored on a military expedition at the beginning of the 20th century, it was named Idenburg River , after the Dutch Colonial Minister Alexander Willem Frederik Idenburg .
The Taritatu with its tributaries drains the eastern part of the Mamberamo basin. It rises in the east of the province of Papua and flows about 320 km westwards until it joins the Tariku to form Mamberamo .
