The tattoomenta Kassel is a tattoo and piercing fair that "belongs to the most renowned public fairs in the tattoo scene".

history

The first tattoomenta opened its doors in 2007. The organizer is the Kassel tattoo artist Jenny Franke ("Jenny B"), who runs tattoo studios in Kassel, Paderborn and Göttingen . In 2011 and 2012 the tattoomenta took place in JVA Elwe, the former Kassel prison. In 2012, Gunter Gabriel provided entertainment in the prison yard with a Johnny Cash program. From 2013 the venue was relocated to the documenta hall in Kassel. The motto of the 2015 Tattoomenta was “Vintage Circus”, and Ingo Kantorek led the program .

The exhibitors show motifs from the styles watercolor, oldschool , Maori, dotwork and trash polka . Guests can also get a tattoo or piercing on site. There is a cafe and food truck, and there is live music and a graffiti workshop. There is also a dealer mile where accessories such as B. Hats, bags and jewelry are offered. The Tattoo Magazine and Tattoo Erotica are represented with their own booth.

Tattoo contest

Every year since 2004 Germany's best young tattoo artist has been chosen in a nationwide tattoo contest, the preliminary decision is made by the tattoo magazine . The theme for 2017 was “hybrid creatures” - based on Hieronymus Bosch's 500th anniversary of death. Your own design is mandatory and the creation process as well as the tattooing process are broadcast live on the stage screen. In 2016 and 2017 the finals took place at the tattoomenta. Tattoo artist Carmela Sullivan was the only woman and the only Swiss woman to make it into the final and took third place.

Trivia

At the tattoomenta 2014, Mark Benecke tattooed several visitors and donated the proceeds to a social project.
