Telelever is a front suspension for motorcycles built by BMW since 1993 . BMW owns the patent rights and uses Telelever on its models with two-cylinder boxer engines , currently still on the BMW R 1200 GS and BMW R 1200 RT models . The Duolever fork is seen as the successor version of the Telelever .

construction

Telelever essentially consists of a special telescopic fork , a trailing arm and a spring strut . The telescopic fork only takes on the function of front wheel guidance and steering, so it does not contain any springs and does not work as a shock absorber .

The stanchions of the telescopic fork are at the top, the sliding tubes are connected by a fork bridge directly above the wheel . At the upper fork bridge the fork is guided in the steering head bearing , at the lower fork bridge by the trailing arm, which is rotatably mounted in the motor housing like a rocker arm. The suspension strut is attached between the trailing arm and the steering head.

Because the angles of the fork, trailing arm and steering head change with each other during compression and rebound, the stanchions in the upper triple clamp are mounted with cup joints, and the lower triple clamp with a spherical head sliding bearing in the trailing arm.

advantages

  • high stability thanks to the low-lying trailing arm
  • little immersion of the suspension when braking
  • Hardly any (pitching) vibrations during ABS control processes
  • Telescopic fork without spring / damper, therefore lighter
  • Increasing the lag when braking, d. H. a high degree of stability when braking

disadvantage

  • elaborate construction
  • comparatively high weight
  • relatively stiff steering due to spherical head plain bearings
  • Lack of feedback from the front wheel when driving in a sporty manner
