Terborg is a Dutch town in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek ( Gelderland province ). It has 4,750 inhabitants.

Terborg is about seven kilometers south of Doetinchem and borders directly on the villages of Gaanderen (in the north), Etten (in the west) and Silvolde (in the south). Terborg has a train station on the Winterswijk – Zevenaar – Arnheim line.

Terborg is on the Alte Issel . Kasteel Wisch is located south of the city center . In the southeast is the De Paasberg natural landscape.

The patron saint of the city is Saint George .

history

In 1382 the bishop of Utrecht , Florence of Wevelinghoven , established the parish of Terborg, an indication of the importance of the place at that time. In 1419 Terborg received city ​​rights from the von Wisch gentlemen . The name is derived from the castle of the Lords of Wisch, which was built in the 12th century on the banks of the Alte Issel. This castle no longer exists, today's Kasteel Wisch is from the 13th century.

In the 19th century Terborg was known for its iron foundries.
