Tetiaroa is an atoll located 42 km north of Tahiti in the Pacific Ocean , consisting of 12 overgrown motus and a sandbar , which are grouped around the lagoon .
geography
The aggregate land area of the 12 islands is 509.7 ha . The total area of the atoll (land area, lagoon and coral reefs ) is 33.66 km². Geographically it belongs to the islands over the wind (French: Îles du Vent ) of the Society Islands , administratively it belongs to French Polynesia and there to the municipality of Arue in Tahiti. The Tetiaroa Airport ( IATA NTTE, ICAO TTI) with its approximately 700 meter long runway is located in the northeast of the island of Onetahi , and the Brando Resort in the south. The island of Onetahi is located in the southwest of the atoll.

50 meters east of Tahuna Iti is the sandbar Motu One ( location ) .
history
In 1904 the Tahitian royal family bequeathed the island to the dentist Johnston Walter Williams . The private island changed hands several times up to 1965. After completing the shooting of the movie Mutiny on the Bounty leased Marlon Brando the island for 99 years by its owner.
In 2014 the holiday resort “The Brando” was opened on the main island of Onetahi. It consists of about 30 beach houses that are located on the sandy beach .
