history

In 1904 the Tahitian royal family bequeathed the island to the dentist Johnston Walter Williams . The private island changed hands several times up to 1965. After completing the shooting of the movie Mutiny on the Bounty leased Marlon Brando the island for 99 years by its owner.

In 2014 the holiday resort “The Brando” was opened on the main island of Onetahi. It consists of about 30 beach houses that are located on the sandy beach .
