The 69 Eyes is a Finnish dark rock - band with influences from metal and gothic rock .
Band history
The 69 Eyes was formed in 1989 as a sleaze and garage rock band in Helsinki . Through appearances in local clubs they got a contract with the Finnish underground label "Gaga Goodies", on which they released their debut album Bump 'n' Grind in 1992, followed by three more albums - Motor City Resurrection , Savage Garden and Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams .
Around 1999 Roadrunner Records signed the group, followed by the first internationally released album Wasting the Dawn . The single of the same name, on which Ville Valo provided the background vocals, became a hit in Finland and climbed to number 5 in the Finnish single charts.
In the spring of 2000 the band brought out the album Blessed Be (produced by Johnny Lee Michaels ). It became the band's first album to be awarded gold . The singles from this album were Brandon Lee , Gothic Girl (chart placement FIN 2), The Chair and Stolen Season . This brought the band first successes in Germany.
August 2000 The 69 Eyes also started their first European tour, u. a. through Germany , and played for the first time at the famous M'era Luna Festival . Their support on this tour was the Norwegian band Zeromancer . In May 2001 the band toured with Paradise Lost .
Dance d'Amour was the first single from the album Paris Kills in February 2002 . This became the band's greatest success in Finland to date and reached number 1 in the Finnish charts for the first time, where the single stayed for five weeks. But the album itself was also a success. It rose to number 1 on the album charts and, like the single, reached gold status. The album later reached platinum status.
In spring 2003 they played at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig. The third release from the album Paris Kills called Crashing High was released in September of the same year. At the end of 2003, The 69 Eyes released the best-of compilation Framed in Blood - The Very Blessed of the 69 Eyes and the DVD Helsinki Vampires , which u. a. Includes live recordings of a concert at the Tavastia club .
In early 2004, the band received a recording contract with Virgin Records , where the album Devils was released in autumn 2004 . Like Paris Kills before , Devils also reached number 1 on the Finnish album charts and received a platinum record. The first single from it was called Lost Boys . The accompanying video, a tribute to the film The Lost Boys , was the band's first video that was also shown outside of alternative TV programs. It was shot with the help of Bam Margera , who was also involved in HIM's video for Buried Alive By Love .
The 69 Eyes spent the next few years mainly on tour, including the USA for the first time in 2006, where they also appeared on an NBC show by Carson Daly on March 31 .
The album "Angels" was released on March 3, 2007, followed by "Back in Blood" on August 21, 2009. Like the video album Helsinki Vampires Live , the single Gothic Girl and the album Framed in Blood, this achieved gold status.
X (named after the Roman number for "10") is the band's 10th studio album. According to Jyrki69, X can e.g. B. also stand for ex-girlfriend. It was released on September 28, 2012 in Europe and on October 9, 2012 in North America.
The 11th studio album Universal Monsters was released on April 22, 2016. This was followed by a European tour, from April 25 to May 1, 2016 the band gave seven concerts in Germany.
For the band's thirtieth anniversary in 2019, the 12th studio album West End was announced. It was released on September 13th, includes eleven songs and guest stars such as Dani Filth , Calico Cooper and Wednesday 13 have also participated. The first single is titled 27 & Done . In addition to the performance of the band, the accompanying video clip also shows excerpts from the horror film The 27 Club (Cleopatra Entertainment), which was released on June 13, 2019. A European tour took place in November 2019, which also stopped in nine German cities.
