The Agonist is a Canadian metalcore and melodic death metal band. It was founded in 2004 under the name The Tempest in Montreal .

history

In 2004, Alissa White-Gluz , Danny Marino, Chris Kells and Simon McKay founded the band The Tempest , with whom they were exclusively touring in Canada.

After signing a record deal with Century Media , they renamed themselves The Agonist at Alissa's request , because agonist means fighter in Greek , which fits well with the attitude of the band's front woman, who is both politically and environmentally committed . When their first album Once Only Imagined was released on August 14, 2007 , the band appeared under their new name on Century Media Records . On August 28th, the first video for the piece "Business Suits and Combat Boots" was released. The director took David Brodsky , who already for numerous other bands, including for Gwar , worked. The video was from the MTV 2 telecast Headbanger's Ball selected at No. 6 of the best videos of 2007.

The second album Lullabies for the Dormant Mind was released on March 10, 2009, the video for the single "… and Their Eulogies Sang Me to Sleep" on April 18 of the same year. David Brodsky once again directed the film. Two more videos for "Birds Elope With The Sun" and "Thank You Pain", also from the album Lullabies for the Dormant Mind , followed.

In March 2014, Alissa White-Gluz joined the band Arch Enemy on to where Angela Gossow to replace. Vicky Psarakis became the new singer .

style

The Agonist builds on lyrics written by the guitarists and the singer. They invoke social, political, ethnic and moral issues and dilemmas that they express in their songs.
