The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album is the soundtrack album by Whitney Houston and various artists for the film Bodyguard , which was released in November 1992. Along with the great success of the film, the soundtrack also became a huge global success. The CD reached the top of the charts in at least 17 countries and sold 44 million copies. This makes The Bodyguard the best-selling soundtrack to this day and is also one of the most successful albums of all time . In Germany, the soundtrack had sold over 1,700,000 copies by December 2009.
history
The main executive producers on this album were Whitney Houston and Clive Davis , with Houston largely determining the song selection. What Becomes of the Broken Hearted was originally intended to serve as the movie's theme song, but the piece has already been used by another film. Kevin Costner's idea was to record a version of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You . The album was number one on the Billboard 200 for 20 weeks , the single I Will Always Love You 14 weeks, which was the record at the time.
