The Crime (Original title: The Sweeney ) is a British action film from 2012 . Directed by Nick Love , who together with John Hodge wrote the screenplay.

action

Detective Inspector Jack Regan is a criminal investigator on a special unit at Scotland Yard . His overly harsh investigation and questioning methods cause displeasure among his superiors, but are accepted by his unit. The team is always deployed when conventional methods are no longer sufficient to put a stop to drug dealers and bank robbers.

When something of the loot disappears during operations of the special unit, an internal investigator (Ivan Lewis) is used to investigate the operation of the unit more closely. Regan immediately messes with the investigator and is unwilling to change his tough approach. In a robbery on a jewelry store, a customer present there is apparently casually shot. Based on the procedure used to blow up the safe in the jewelry store, Regan suspects that the burglar expert Francis Allen is the culprit. He manages to arrest him. Since the arrest was made without an arrest warrant, there is only a limited period of time to elicit a confession from Allen and his cronies. Shortly before this time limit expires, it turns out that Allen has an alibi and was abroad at the time of the crime.

A little later the unit learns of an ongoing bank robbery. They drive to the scene immediately, even though their supervisor forbids them to work. When they arrive at the crime scene, the bank robbers are fleeing with the loot. A wild shooting ensues in which several passers-by are killed. Regan's colleague Lewis, the wife of the internal investigator with whom he has a relationship, is also shot. Due to the insubordination and his tough approach, Regan ends up in prison, where he is exposed to massive hostility from the inmates. Just before the situation in prison escalates, Carter, Regan's right-hand man, manages to expose everyone's alibi as bought. He gets on the track of a plot and can use his new knowledge to ensure that Regan is released from prison before anything happens to him.

Together they manage to catch the main culprit after a long chase and shoot him. Allen is arrested as an accomplice. Due to the success of the investigation, the special unit remains and the internal investigator is withdrawn.
