action

Even if the neurologist Will Harbor was long supported by his father Dr. Thomas Harbor was disappointed, he visits him, who has withdrawn from the public after heated controversy. Two years earlier, Harbor had invented a device for recording subatomic wavelengths that leave a human body after death . In doing so, he had proven that there is “something” after death . Although Harbor referred to it as just a separate "plane of existence," many people preferred the idea of some kind of heaven where the afterlife can only be better than that on earth . What Harbor couldn't foresee: Within six months of its discovery, more than a million people committed suicide .

Will plans to ask his father to stop this social madness by discrediting his own research. Dr. Thomas Harbor lives in seclusion behind the locked gates of a huge, almost palatial former factory on an island off the New England coast , surrounded by staff and patients. These include the newly arrived Isla, whom Will already met on the ferry, Toby, Cooper and Lacey, an eccentric supporter of his father.
