reception

Gine Kreuzer from the industry portal Serienjunkies.de thinks that the pilot episode of the series has "promising aspects" such as the "medical processes, dramas about life and death, emotional moments and interpersonal conflicts". Nina Rehfeld says on Spiegel Online that the series offers more than just “cozy TV”. They combine "the best of contemporary American television culture: A difficult man in the middle of a doctor series full of politics, sex, science and blatant melodrama". Often the authors manage to “strike a fine balance between medical crime thriller, secret melodrama and clever reflection [sic!] Of the complexities of human interaction”. Freddie Highmore plays Shaun Murphy with “a captivating mix of vibrant enthusiasm and awkward introspection”, and he portrays him “as a person with a pleasingly many dimensions”.
