The Hawaiians were an American American football team from Honolulu , Hawaii . They played in the World Football League (WFL) between 1974 and 1975 . It is one of only three teams in the WFL that has neither moved nor changed its name.

history

After Danny Rogers acquired the license rights to a WFL team from Ben Hatskin in 1973 , he founded The Hawaiians in Honolulu . Before the start of the first season, in 1974 , obliged the Hawaiians eleven former players of the established National Football League (NFL) as head coach was Mike Giddings committed. They then held open training at the University of California, Riverside, and signed 22 of their 33 drafted players, as well as five of the first ten players selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL Draft . They played their first game on July 10, 1974 against the Florida Blazers , which they lost 7-8. They finished the regular season with nine wins and eleven defeats, which meant they qualified for the play-offs . After they defeated Southern California Sun 32:14 in the quarterfinals , they were eliminated after a 19:22 semi-final defeat by the Birmingham Americans . In 1975, the Hawaiians moved to the 50,000 spectators twice as large stage Aloha . This season they ended with four wins in eleven games and so missed the play-offs. After the season, the team, like the entire league, was disbanded due to a lack of financial resources.
