action

The pupil Elizabeth "Liz" Dunn comes back to school from the neighboring forest. She dials 911 and starts screaming. Then Liz is treated by the psychologist Philippa Horwood, to whom she tells her story: More than two weeks beforehand, she and her friend Frankie, her crush Mike and classmate Geoff had her good friend Martyn Taylor lock herself in a bunker in order to not having to take part in a school excursion. The adventure was only supposed to last three days, but Martyn did not show up as agreed to let her out again. The trapped assumed that Martyn wanted revenge out of jealousy, since he has been in love with Liz since childhood, and would have even secretly observed her. When the trapped students discovered bug bugs (in reality it was ventilation shafts) in the bunker, they faked an argument and Frankie was sick to get free, which they managed to do because Martyn opened the bunker hatch again.

The story told by Liz, however, cannot be true: Of the four missing students, she is the only one who left the bunker alive.

Police arrest and interrogate Martyn, who denies allegations and makes a statement that the girls invited the boys to a party in the bunker. Since there is nothing to prove to him, Martyn is released and ambushes Liz at home to confront her. On a bridge there is an argument between the two.

Horwood then finds the disturbed Liz in her house. Liz explains that she has only fragments of what happened and insists on going back to the bunker. There she finally tells what really happened:

The three day party in the bunker was only meant to make Mike fall in love with Liz. She had the key to the bunker secretly with her from the start; there was no appointment with Martyn to let her out. Only after several days did Liz manage to seduce Mike into sex, while Frankie vomited violently in the toilet because of an infection. The following morning, Liz wanted to open the bunker, but found Frankie dead in the toilet. Due to the persistent vomiting, she suffered a rupture in her bulimic esophagus, which led to heart failure. Then the situation got out of hand: Liz couldn't manage to confess to the others that she had the key and was to blame for Frankie's death. Eventually Mike discovered that Geoff secretly still had beverage cans that he didn't want to share with the others, even though everyone was thirsty. In the ensuing argument, Mike killed Geoff in an affect. Still Liz Mike not confessed the truth and wanted to persuade him jointly suicide to commit to be because there is no hope, saved. Mike refused, confessed his love to Liz and was able to dissuade her from her plan. While Mike slept, Liz opened the bunker door and, standing at the top of the hatch, told him the whole truth. Angry Mike tried to climb up to Liz and fell to his death with the breaking ladder.

Liz makes it clear to Horwood that she will not officially repeat her confession. When the police come into the bunker and report that Martyn was found dead in the water and had the key with him, the latter is found guilty of having committed suicide. In fact, it is clear that Liz slipped him the key and pushed him off the bridge in an argument to cover up what she had done. Liz can leave the place as a free woman.
