The House That Ananda Built is a 1967 Indian short documentary directed by Fali Bilimoria .

It portrays a peasant family of the Vaishya caste in the village of Nadpur in the Indian state of Orissa . In addition to traditional peasant life, he also examines the father's relationship with his sons, who have moved to different parts of India and lead modern lives.

The well-researched and written film essay, illustrated with portraits of the family and other villagers, somewhat misses its profound intention due to its 20-minute format, but remains a milestone in Indian documentary film.

The film was a critical hit and was the first Indian documentary to be nominated at the 1969 Academy Awards for Best Documentary Short .
