The Jim Jones Revue is an English rock 'n' roll band from London.

Band history

Career

The band was founded by Jim Jones and Rupert Orton. The two met at the last Black Moses (Jim Jones' band) concerts organized by Rupert Orton. It quickly turned out that both had the same vision of a new band. Shortly thereafter, they put together a band with Scottish Nick Jones on drums and keyboardist Elliot Mortimer. The last to join the band was bassist Gavin Jay. In the beginning the band was called The Jim Jones Punk and Soul Revue, which was later shortened to The Jim Jones Revue.

The first album The Jim Jones Revue was recorded in their small practice room in Camden Town in 2008 within 48 hours. A year later the compilation Here To Save Your Soul was released , with singles and B-sides. The band signed a record deal with PIAS and in September 2010 the second studio album Burning Your House Down was released , produced by Jim Sclavunos from u. a. Grinderman and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds . The third and final album The Savage Heart was released in 2012. In June 2014 the band announced that they would split up at the end of the year.

Influences

The band emphasizes that they do not reenact the rock 'n' roll of the 50s, but reinterpret it. B. means writing critical and contemporary texts. Musically, the piano is in the foreground, the Jim Jones Revue is based on the music of Jerry Lee Lewis , Little Richard and Huey "Piano" Smith . The band is compared a lot with The Birthday Party , MC5 , Johnny Thunders , The Gun Club and The Sonics .

Previous bands

All band members played in other bands before the Jim Jones review. Jim Jones was the singer and guitarist for Thee Hypnotics , Black Moses, and played drums for The Urban Voodoo Machine. Bassist Gavin Jay has played in the band Rum Circus and Sohodolls, drummer Nick Jomes was in the Scottish band Heavy Stereo with Gem Archer , who later became successful with Oasis , Elliot Mortimer played keyboards in the band Saint Jude and guitarist Rupert Orton besides his job at a record label organized concerts and was u. a.
