action

Cop Mike Santini lives and works in New York City . He and his family are on vacation in the Caribbean when he sees the fugitive Eddie Meyers. Santini arrests Meyers.

Meyers is included in the witness protection program, Santini is supposed to question him and protect him between interrogations. The judicial authorities expect Meyers to explain the mafia money laundering; they also ask for a computer diskette with additional information. Tensions develop between the men, ultimately leading to open psychological warfare. Santini has an affair with Meyers' wife.

Meyers is targeted by the Mafia. He promises Santini one million US dollars if the policeman allows him to escape again. Santini rejects the offer.

Meyers testifies in court as a witness. On the way back, he takes Santini's gun and forces the driver to drive to a bank. The authorities previously warned by Santini equipped him with a hidden transponder , but new clothes for Santini were deposited in the basement of the bank building. The policeman has to change and can no longer be located.

Since metal detectors are installed at the entrance to the bank, Meyers throws the weapon away. He and Santini go to the locker from which Meyers is getting diamonds valued at four million dollars. You will also find the floppy disk you are looking for and a pistol in the locker. Meyers threatens the police officer and an employee of the bank, whom he locks up, with the gun. Then he escapes.

Santini is suspended from duty. Prosecutor Daniel Cole accuses him of enabling Meyers to escape. Meyers sends the authorities a recording that proves that Cole himself was ready to allow Meyers to escape. Santini is rehabilitated and promoted.

Some time later, Santini visits Meyers on his luxury boat in the Caribbean. Meyers again offers him diamonds worth a million dollars, which Santini refuses again. However, he gets the disk.
