The Musical Times is an academic classical music and musicology magazine published in the UK . It was founded in 1844 by Alfred Novello , the eldest son of the music publisher Vincent Novello , and initially appeared under the title The Musical Times and Singing Class Circular , since January 1904 under the current title. Originally the magazine appeared monthly, currently quarterly. It is also available online from JSTOR and RILM .

Past editors were Frederick George Edwards (1897–1909), Harvey Grace, Stanley Sadie (1967–1987) and Eric Wen.
