The Romance of Transportation in Canada is a 1952 Canadian animated short film directed by Colin Low .

action

A daring small airplane pilot crashes and lands with his parachute directly on a traffic policeman . The traffic on the road comes to a standstill, as well as cars and ships and trains are interrupted. A look back at the evolution of Canada’s transportation begins.

Even the first settlers recognized that Canada is above all a water-rich country. The earliest means of transport was therefore the canoe , which was soon replaced by larger canoes and finally by small sailing ships . In the 18th century canals and locks made it easier to transport by water. The first land routes were opened up by ox carts if the ox was willing to move. In winter, trips could be made comfortably by ski or sledge .

At the end of the 18th century the traveling coach became a means of transport, even if it was only loved to a limited extent due to the uneven paths. The industrial revolution brought the paddle steamer and the railroad , which with its smoke not only changed the face of locomotion in Canada, but also the color of travelers' faces. In the 20th century, on the other hand, cars and (water) planes dominated the picture of locomotion in Canada, which, however, was stopped by a temporary absence of the traffic police.

The policeman can free himself from the rescue parachute and arrests the plane. The traffic is rolling again and in the future Canada will be open to everything that the future brings, even if the policeman is upset by the sight of a UFO above him.
