The Seekers is an Australian pop group that was very successful internationally in the mid- 1960s .

Career

In 1963 the four band members met in Melbourne . At first they began to make music and sing together just for fun in their spare time. Then they started performing in the Melbourne area every now and then and eventually they got their folk songs on TV.

They called themselves The Seekers and were soon so popular that they gave up their professions and became full-time musicians. At the end of 1964 they went to England , appeared in various TV shows just three weeks after arriving, and in early 1965 they had their first number one hit and million seller with I'll Never Find Another You , a song that Tom Springfield, der Bruder by Dusty Springfield .

Tom Springfield would be responsible for most of the band's songs in the following years.

In 1968 the Seekers disbanded . Keith Potger then founded New Seekers, which was successful from 1970 onwards .

A reunification concert in 1993 with the original line-up was so successful that the group performed together for another 13 years. In 1995 the Seekers were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame . The last release of new songs took place in 2001 only in Australia under the title Future Road , and included studio recordings from 1995 to 1999.

In June 2010 it was announced that The Seekers would give five concerts together with the violinist André Rieu in Australia in October. A concert was held on May 18, 2011 at the Brisbane Entertainment Center. In May and June 2013 The Seekers toured the UK again for the only time since 1968. Further appearances in Australia and New Zealand followed in 2014 and 2015.

In 2009 the 4-CD compilation All Bound for Morningtown was released , on which all recordings from the time at EMI Recordings from 1964 to 1968 were put together. For their 50th anniversary, the double CD 50 - the golden jubilee album was released with all of its 48 old songs and two new recordings.

Today The Seekers is the only internationally popular music group of the 1960s that still exists in its original line-up.
