The Wizard of the Strings is an American documentary released in 1985.

The film portrays the guitarist Roy Smeck (1900-1994), who was known as the “magician on the strings”. At the time the film was made, Smeck was still active, teaching, and still performing. His fame was based on his virtuoso playing with guitar, banjo, ukulele and the Hawaiian guitar.

Awards

In 1986 the film was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary Short Film category.

At the Student Academy Awards ceremony , Alan Edelstein and Peter Friedman were honored with a Medal of Merit.
