Thea Minyan Bjørseth (born October 30, 2003 ) is a Norwegian Nordic combined skier who is also active as a ski jumper .

Career

Nordic combined athlete

Bjørseth, who starts for Lensbygda Sportsklubb , made her international debut on February 9, 2016 in Trondheim as part of the Youth Cup , where she took second place behind Gyda Westvold Hansen in the Gundersen Method competition. In the following years she competed regularly in the Youth Cup and consistently placed in the top 10.

In January 2019 Bjørseth took part in the first edition of a junior women’s competition at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2019 in Lahti and finished 17th. A few days later she won her first competition in the Youth Cup, the overall ranking of which she was in second place behind the German Emily Schneider graduated. At the end of February she made her debut in the Nordic Combined Continental Cup in Rena , where she won her first points by reaching thirteenth and tenth place.

In the 2019/20 season she was part of the Norwegian development team in Nordic Combined, from which the first World Cup team was to be formed the following year. On August 25, 2019 Bjørseth competed in the Grand Prix for the first time in Oberwiesenthal . Although she was the fifth best jumper among the participants, she only came in twelfth place in the overall ranking due to the comparatively poor running times. She was also the best jumper in the first ever women's junior competition at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne , but ultimately only finished seventh after cross-country skiing.

Ski jumper

In the absence of the Norwegian national ski jumping team, Bjørseth won the national ski jumping championships on the Mittelschanze in March 2018, both individually and in the team competition, which was held for the first time. A year later she was able to defend her championship title in individual at the Norwegian Ski Jumping Championships in Oslo , where again the World Cup team did not start. With a jump of 74.0 meters, she set a new hill record for women on the Linderudkollen .

Bjørseth made her debut in the FIS Cup on February 9, 2019 , which was her first participation in an official FIS ski jumping competition. In her Continental Cup debut in August 2019 in Szczyrk , Bjørseth jumped to eleventh place on both days of the competition. At the beginning of winter she reached the podium in the Continental Cup for the first time in Notodden, second behind Sophie Sorschag . In February 2020 she was appointed to the Norwegian World Cup team for the first time . On her debut at the Aigner-Schanze in Hinzenbach , she missed the second run, but was able to collect her first World Cup points the next day with rank 26. Two weeks later she reached the podium for the first time in the team competition in Ljubno as third together with Anna Odine Strøm , Silje Opseth and Maren Lundby . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2020 in Oberwiesenthal , Bjørseth won the silver medal in both the individual and the mixed team.
