Thelma Awori

Thelma Awori , née Traub, is a Liberian - Ugandan politician.

The daughter of Liberian Senator Byron Duma Traub studied at Harvard Universities (graduated in 1965) and Berkeley (graduated in 1972).

From 1988 to 1992 she was Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). She then headed the UNDP office in Zimbabwe from 1992 to 1996 and was Deputy Director of the UNDP Policy Bureau from 1996 to 1998. From 1998 to 2000 she was UNDP Director for Africa and Deputy UN Secretary General. She is currently a board member of the women's organization Isis-WICCE , as well as deputy director of the Sirleaf Market Women's Fund .

In 1962, at Harvard, she met her husband, Aggrey Awori , who is a politician in Uganda.
