Research priorities

Theodor Abt has the following main research areas:

  • Translation of alchemical works from Arabic in collaboration with the Arabists Peter Starr (University of Ankara) and Wilferd Madelung . He comments on the alchemical texts from the point of view of analytical psychology with regard to their symbolic content, in order to make their content accessible to modern consciousness. The critically edited and translated texts and interpretations are published in the CALA series (Corpus Alchemicum Arabicum) by Living Human Heritage Publications , Zurich.
  • Translation of Egyptian afterlife books in collaboration with the Basel Egyptologist Erik Hornung . He also comments on these from the point of view of analytical psychology with regard to their symbolic content, in order to make their statements understandable again today. The English-translated grave inscriptions and interpretations are also published by Living Human Heritage Publications , Zurich.
  • Methodology of image interpretation and its application in therapeutic practice. Since this is generally applicable to symbolism in the fine arts, Theodor Abt also used it in the interpretation of the archaeological finds (stone round and double pillars) of Göbekli Tepe and in the exhibition concept (with United Exhibits) of Dawn of the Human Spirit , around the same To work out the meanings of the rock paintings. The exhibition opened at Cologne Zoo in May 2000 and traveled to Germany and America between 2000 and 2004.
  • Archetypal dimension of collectively significant time issues. Theodor Abt made it clear in his work as a supervisor of development projects that archetypal dreams can provide an answer or models for current, supra-personal problems. He postulated this in his dissertation and his habilitation thesis and applied it in articles on questions of regional and rural development as well as in his book “Dark Clouds over Europe”, published in 2014.
