Theodor Formes
Theodor Formes (born June 29, 1826 in Mülheim am Rhein , † October 3 or October 15, 1874 in Endenich ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ).
Life
Theodor Formes, brother of the opera singer Karl Formes , received his training in Vienna , made his debut in 1846 as Edgardo in the “ Lucia di Lammermoor ” zu Ofen , then took an engagement at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna, in 1848 in Mannheim and from 1851 he was the first Heldentenor for 15 years at the Berlin Opera House. Originally a bass , his voice changed to a tenor.
Later he went to America with his brother, where he had no luck. When he returned, he lost his voice almost entirely. Although he came back into possession of the same for a time, after a sensational guest performance at the Kroll Opera in Berlin, he was again engaged as the first tenor at the opera house; In the course of the first year, however, symptoms of mental disturbance appeared, which finally necessitated his transfer to the insane asylum in Endenich near Bonn, where he died on October 3 or 15, 1874.
His wife Auguste b. Arens was a royal Prussian court actress.
