Theophil Antonicek

Theophil Antonicek (born November 22, 1937 in Vienna ; † April 19, 2014 there ) was an Austrian musicologist .

Career

Theophil Antonicek studied musicology at the University of Vienna with Erich Schenk , receiving his doctorate in 1962 and his habilitation in 1978. Until his retirement he was a university lecturer at the University of Vienna.

Antonicek had been a corresponding member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 1984 and a real member since 1995, and from 1998 editor of the Monuments of Music in Austria . In addition, from 1998 to 2010 he was in charge of the publication series “Studies in Musicology”. As a co-founder of the Austrian Society for Musicology, he headed it from 1973 to 1983. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, he was honored by a symposium.

On May 5, 2014 Theophil Antonicek was buried in the romantic cemetery in Maria Enzersdorf .
