Thomas Askebrand (2015)

Thomas Askebrand (born Thomas Johansson on January 23, 1969 in Åsa ) is a Swedish football coach .

Career

As a player, Askebrand ran eight seasons for Åsa IF in what was then the third-class Division 2 . After several knee operations, he ended his active career early and initially trained with Hanhals BK , Bua IF and Lerkils IF various amateur clubs.

After a year as a coaching assistant at Gothenburg club Västra Frölunda IF in the second division season in 2005 , he initially returned to Lerkils IF . After the fifth division championship in 2007, he took over as the successor to Stig Kristensson as head coach at the second division team Falkenbergs FF , who established himself under his leadership in the middle table area of ​​the Superettan . The club had never finished worse than seventh in its first four seasons, but the team around Stefan Rodevåg , Victor Sköld and Anton Wede slipped into the relegation battle and ultimately ended the 2012 season on the relegation place . After a 0-0 draw in the first leg at BK Forward , the club prevailed thanks to goals from Zlatan Krizanovic and Johan Svahn with a 2-1 return win and held the class.

After the end of the season Askebrand left Falkenbergs FF, where he handed over to Hans Eklund , and took over the coaching position at Gothenburg's first division relegated GAIS . He led the club to seventh place in the table in his first season. After the club started the 2014 season with just eight points from the first nine games and was relegated to third-class Division 1 at the time, the club separated from Askebrand at the end of May and appointed its assistant Kjell Pettersson as an interim successor.
