Thomas Trace Beatie (* 1974 as Tracy Lehuanani LaGondino in Honolulu , Hawaii ) is an American transgender activist.

The trans man Beatie had sex reassignment surgery performed in 2002 . He achieved greater fame in 2008 as the world's first “ pregnant man”. So far, Beatie has given birth to three children.

Life

Beatie was born in Hawaii in 1974 as Tracy Lehuanani Lagondino. In the late 1990s, he began hormone therapy and the first surgical gender reassignment measures . The sex reassignment surgery was performed in 2002, but the internal female organs were not removed. In the same year he was also legally recognized as a man. In 2003 Beatie married a woman.

Since his wife could not have children, Beatie decided in 2008 to conceive through artificial insemination. After extensive press coverage, Beatie became known worldwide as a pregnant man. Beatie received an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the first married man to give birth to a child ("first married man to give birth").

The child, a daughter, was born in June 2008. In September 2009 and July 2010 Beatie gave birth to one son each.

In March 2012, Thomas and Nancy Beatie filed for divorce in Phoenix , Arizona . A judge refused to divorce because Beatie still had female genital organs at the time of the marriage and he was therefore to be considered a woman. This means that marriage is invalid in Arizona, as same-sex marriages are not allowed there. On August 13, 2014, these decision was in turn from the Court of Appeal rejected Arizona (Arizona Court of Appeals) and the marriage beaties validated, so that the divorce end of 2015 could be made legally binding.

Beatie remarried on February 27, 2016, four years her senior Amber Beatie (née Nichols), the preschool teacher of his children from his first marriage. The wedding took place in 2016 and the family lives in Phoenix, Arizona. Amber Beatie lost her job when it became known that she and Thomas Beatie were a couple and subsequently retrained to be a beautician.

Pop Culture

London artist Marc Quinn exhibited a ten foot marble sculpture of the pregnant Beatie in May 2010. The figure is part of the exhibition Allanah Buck Catman Chelsea Michael Pamela and Thomas , which also includes sculptures by transsexual porn actors Allanah Starr and Buck Angel , body artist Catman , breast model Chelsea Charms , singer Michael Jackson and actress Pamela Anderson .
