Thomas R. Burman

Thomas R. Burman (born November 28, 1940 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American makeup artist and special effects artist .

Life

Burman began his career on the film staff in 1968 in the science fiction film Planet of the Apes without credits in the credits. He also remained without credit in a few subsequent film productions . After his work on Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind , his career took off, and he subsequently worked on numerous Hollywood productions , including The Goonies , Die Hard 2 , The Godfather III and Throw Mama off the Train! . In the course of his career he has worked under such renowned directors as Richard Donner , Francis Ford Coppola , Kenneth Branagh and Brian De Palma . In 1989 , Burman was nominated for an Oscar for Best Make-up and Best Hairstyles for Richard Donner's comedy The Ghosts I Called ... together with Bari Dreiband-Burman, but that year the award went to Tim Burton's horror comedy Beetlejuice .

In addition to his film engagements, Burman has also worked for television, including the series The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones , Nip / Tuck - Beauty Has Its Price , Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy . For his work in television he was nominated a total of 27 times for the Primetime Emmy between 1987 and 2011 , five times he won the award.

Burman's first wife Sandy Burman (1943-2019) and his second wife Bari Dreiband-Burman were also active in the make-up sector.
