Thomas William Rhys Davids
Thomas William Rhys Davids (born May 12, 1843 in Colchester , Essex , England , † December 27, 1922 in Chipstead , Surrey , England) was a British Pali researcher.
Life
He was the founder of the Pali Text Society in London, an association for the scientific edition and translation of texts of the Buddhist Pali canon . The association was the first organization to transcribe and translate this canon on a large scale.
Rhys Davis was an honorary member of the German Pali Society, which existed between 1909 and 1913 . In 1905 he was elected a member of the British Academy .
