The Thomond Park is a stadium in the Irish city of Limerick , which is used for rugby matches. It has held 26,500 spectators since the renovation in 2008 and is the home of the Munster provincial team and the Shannon RFC and UL Bohemians RFC clubs .

Thomond Park is one of the most famous and feared stadiums in rugby union , mainly due to the volume during the game and the absolute silence during penalties or increases, regardless of the home and visiting team. Munster managed from 1995 to 2007 to win every home game in the Heineken Cup in this stadium. There, too, the team beat the New Zealand All Blacks 12-0 in 1978 .

With the professionalization of sport in the 1990s, the old stadiums were also renovated. In 1998 and 1999, Thomond Park was equipped with floodlights, new grandstands and medical infrastructure, as well as a new square. In 2006, the Irish Rugby Football Union began buying adjoining buildings and land to expand the stadium. The work started in 2007 and was completed in autumn 2008. Two new stands were built and the total capacity of the stadium increased from 12,500 to 26,500.

With the renovation of Thomond Park, a sale of the naming rights was also up for debate. However, it was decided to keep the name and sell the individual grandstand names.
