Thorsten Bauer (born September 28, 1977 in Kassel , Germany ) is a former German soccer player who was mainly active for KSV Hessen Kassel .

Career

Bauer played from 1982 in the F-youth for KSV Hessen Kassel and its predecessor, FC Hessen Kassel, and stayed there until the A-youth. In 1996 he left his youth club and played for the national division SpVgg Olympia Kassel . After only one season, the club was relegated to the regional league , where Bauer played for Olympia Kassel for two more years. 1999 moved to KSV Baunatal in the league , where he scored 25 goals in the second season and reached the runner-up. So the regional league team SSV Jahn Regensburg became aware of him and Thorsten Bauer moved to Regensburg in 2001. However, he was unable to convince there. He only played twelve games, remained without a goal and his contract was not renewed.

In 2002 Thorsten Bauer returned to KSV Hessen Kassel after six years . There he immediately joined the regular formation and was able to score 13 goals in his first season, in the fifth competitive game he scored his first goal on August 24, 2002 against Viktoria Aschaffenburg . In the 2003/04 season he was the top scorer in the Oberliga Hessen with 28 goals and narrowly missed promotion to the Regionalliga. 2004/05 he experienced a less successful season in which he could only score nine goals. In the 2005/06 season Thorsten Bauer and his club were champions of the Oberliga Hessen. On the last day of the match he scored the decisive 0-1 at FSV Frankfurt and thus secured promotion to the Regionalliga Süd . He was also the top scorer again this season. With 16 goals Thorsten Bauer contributed significantly to the relegation of KSV Hessen Kassel in the subsequent 2006/07 regional league season . In the 2007/08 regional league season , however, he missed the desired qualification for the newly founded 3rd division with his club . Nevertheless, he was so successful as a goalscorer that he was the top scorer in the Regionalliga Süd with 19 goals. On May 23, 2008 he completed his 200th league game for KSV Hessen Kassel at the away game in Oggersheim .

On October 25, 2008, he outbid the goal record held by Toni Hellwig in the 1950s with his 121st goal in the 211th game for KSV, against the reserves of SpVgg Unterhaching .

Despite the interest of some second division clubs such as SpVgg Greuther Fürth or 1. FC Kaiserslautern , Bauer remained loyal to his home club. At the beginning of 2009, his contract was extended to June 30, 2012. At the end of the 2008/09 season he was again top scorer of the Regionalliga Süd.

In the spring of 2011, Bauer was suspended by his trainer Mirko Dickhaut . Dickhaut justified this with purely sporting reasons, but the press suspected that the suspension was also related to criticism that Bauer had voiced. Even under the new coach Christian Hock , Bauer did not play a major role, partly because of his age and the resulting slowness, and partly because he did not fit into Hock's preferred game system . In the summer of 2011, the contract was terminated and Thorsten Bauer ended his career. Thorsten Bauer has been a scout at KSV Hessen Kassel since 2015. He wore the number 10 on his back at KSV Hessen Kassel.

popularity

Thorsten Bauer was very popular with the fans as a performance and supporter of KSV Hessen Kassel. This is due on the one hand to his extraordinary loyalty to the club, but not least to his consistently high-class performance - he scored 161 goals in 297 games for Kassel, making him the club's record scorer. He was also the top scorer four times, twice each in the major and regional leagues. He was also voted “North Hesse's Sportsman of the Year” several times.
