Thorsten Poschwatta
Thorsten Poschwatta (* 1961 in Karlsruhe ) is a lieutenant general in the air force of the Bundeswehr and chief of staff for the Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan .
Military career
Thorsten Poschwatta joined the Bundeswehr in 1981 . He completed his officer training at the Air Force Officer School . From 1982 to 1984 he completed his aviation training as a weapons system officer in Mather AFB near Sacramento , Fürstenfeldbruck , Cottesmore / (Rutland, United Kingdom) GBR and Jever . From 1984 to 1994 there was a 10-year service with the fighter-bomber squadron 31 "Boelcke" in Nörvenich. There he went through the assignments of flight group leader, orderly officer , head of the command post (S3E) and operational staff officer before he was a participant in the 39th general staff training course from 1994 to 1996 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 1, 1995 .
Poschwatta then worked from 1996 to 1998 as Staff Officer Policy Division at HQ AFCENT in Brunssum . It was in this role that his first assignment abroad as Director Joint Operations Center at HQ SFOR in Sarajevo took place . From 1998 to 2000 he was first deputy and then commander of the flying group of JaboG 31 "B" and in the context of this assignment in his second assignment as head of the German command post in Vicenza during Operation Allied Force .
After his time in command, in 2000 he worked for almost 3 years as a consultant in the command staff of the Air Force III 3 and later III 5, before he was promoted to Colonel Chief of Staff of the 1st Air Force Division in Fürstenfeldbruck in 2003 . 2004 Poschwatta was commodore of the reconnaissance squadron 51 "Immelmann" in Jagel . As part of this assignment, his third assignment abroad took place in 2007 as the first Commodore of the task force Mazar e Sharif in Afghanistan.
From 2007 to 2012 there was a 5-year period as head of division in the Federal Ministry of Defense , initially in the command staff of Air Force III 1 in Bonn , then as team leader for the Balkans / UN / EU operations team and as head of division SE II 3 Maghreb / Middle East in Berlin .
General uses
From October 1, 2012 to October 31, 2014, Poschwatta served as head of the operations department in the Luftwaffe command in Berlin-Gatow . He was appointed Brigadier General with effect from December 1, 2012 . From August 21, 2013 to February 21, 2014, he was in ISAF deployment as Base Commander and Senior Airfield Authority at Camp Marmal in Afghanistan. From November 1, 2014 to March 2020, he was, as the successor to Rear Admiral Rainer Brinkmann , deputy commander in the Bundeswehr Operations Command in Geltow near Potsdam. He handed this post over to Flotilla Admiral Jörg Klein . Poschwatta was promoted to Lieutenant General and became Chief of Staff for the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan on April 9, 2020 . Here he succeeded Lieutenant General Andreas Marlow .
Others
Poschwatta has over 2200 flight hours, including 2000 flight hours on the Tornado weapon system in both the fighter-bomber and scout roles.
Poschwatta is active and successful in senior athletics. I.a. he took part in the "World Master Athletics Championships Indoor Daegu 2017" in South Korea and in the "European Masters Athletics Championships Stadia" in July / August 2017 in Denmark.
With the starting community Top Weiß Spandau he is the holder of the German record over 4 × 200 m in the hall and world record holder over 4 × 400 m in the hall.
Brigadier General Peter Poschwatta was his father; Major General Siegfried Poschwatta is his uncle.
