from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Platelet -poor plasma (also known as platelet-poor plasma or PPP) is a fraction of the blood . Platelet-poor plasma contains fewer than 10,000 platelets (blood platelets) per µl and is used for the production of numerous blood products such as fresh frozen plasma (GFP) and cryoprecipitate . In addition, plasma poor in platelets is used analytically in laboratory diagnostics . That during the extraction of platelet-rich plasma with the help of plasmapheresis as a byproduct resulting platelet-poor plasma, however, usually the donor along with the red blood cells back transfused .

Manufacturing

Platelet-poor plasma can be produced from autologous patient's whole blood , for example, with the help of plasmapheresis . With the help of centrifugal force , the whole blood is separated in layers into the components erythrocytes , platelet-poor plasma and platelet-rich plasma due to their different specific gravity .
