In 1969, the two met Ashley Hutchings , with whom they founded the folk rock band Steeleye Span that same year .

In 1995 he returned briefly to the UK and took part in a five-hour concert with almost all of Steeleye Span's members. A recording of the concert was released in 1999 under the name The Journey .

In December 2008, Hart was diagnosed with lung cancer. He then returned to England to seek help in a hospital in Reading . On the morning of December 24th, 2009, Tim Hart died at the age of 61 on La Gomera, where he had returned for his final days.
