Timothy John "Tim" Staffell (born February 24, 1948 in London ) is a British rock singer , bassist , model builder and designer .

He belonged to the musical group Smile , the previous band of Queen . They were a student band that consisted of the trio Brian May (guitar), Roger Taylor (drums) and Tim Staffell (vocals and bass). Finally, Season left the band in early 1970 and switched to Humpy Bong . For him came Freddie Mercury . He suggested another name for them: Queen. Staffell's song Doing All Right , co-written with May, is included on the 1973 debut album Queen . Staffell stated in an interview that he has never regretted his exit and that Queen would never have been successful with him as a singer because he does not have the dazzling entertainer qualities of Freddie Mercury.
