The Time Warner Center is a multifunctional building complex on Columbus Circle in Midtown Manhattan , New York City .
General
Originally called the AOL Time Warner Center , the complex was designed by David Childs , who works for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill . The architectural twin tower principle of the 229 meter high structure is reminiscent of the twin towers of the World Trade Center destroyed on September 11th . Therefore, the 1.6 woke billion -US-dollar Time Warner Center of particular interest to New Yorkers, though the construction work started in November of 2000. When completed in 2004, it will also be the first skyscraper complex in New York City to be completed after the terrorist attacks . However, architect David Childs is also the architect of a new World Trade Center building, the One World Trade Center and the 7 World Trade Center, which opened in 2006 .
The number of floors has been a source of confusion for a long time. At first, the Time Warner Center was said to have 80 floors, until a May 2003 article in the New York Times reported that it was only 69 floors. These are divided into 55 above-ground and 14 underground floors. In order to be able to sell the condominiums better, 80 floors are still mentioned in real estate magazines, although there are now officially 55 floors .
On July 1, 2013, it was announced that Time Warner would give up its Columbus Circle location. The company moved into the north tower of the new 30 Hudson Yards building in 2018/19 .
The new main tenant will be Deutsche Bank , which will move in here by 2021. At that time the building will be named Deutsche Bank Center .

The shops on Columbus Circle
In the first basement of the Time Warner Center is a large supermarket chain Whole Foods . Shops and luxury boutiques up to the fourth floor are located in the entrance hall above. So have brands such as A / X Armani Exchange , Borders Books , Bose , Eileen Fisher , Hugo Boss , J. Crew , Stuart Weitzman , L'Occitane en Provence , Sephora and Williams-Sonoma stores in the Time Warner Center .
There are also restaurants on the third and fourth floors. Otherwise, several art objects are distributed over the floors, some of which can also be bought. There are also two large statues by the Colombian artist Fernando Botero in the entrance hall . The corpulent naked figures are supposed to represent 'Adam' and 'Eve'.
Jazz at Lincoln Center
On the fifth to seventh floors there is a concert hall with 1,100 seats, an atrium with 600 seats and a jazz cafe that can seat 140 people. All of these rooms are used by the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts . A special feature is that the glass facade of the Time Warner Center is behind the stage of the concert hall , so that Central Park and the skyline can be seen in the background of the artists. The complex was designed by renowned architect Rafael Viñoly and built by Turner-Santa Fe, a joint venture between Turner Construction and Santa Fe Construction .
CNN Studios
The Time Warner company news channel CNN had its studios on the fifth to ninth floors of the Time Warner Center . There was also a CNN fan shop in the building , where you could buy anything from mugs to t-shirts with CNN labels or well-known CNN reporters . Together with Time Warner, CNN moved to Hudson Yards in 2018/19.
offices
The offices make up most of the Time Warner Center . Since AOL Time Warner, as a single company, has moved into about half of the floors, and thus most of the floors, the building complex is named after Time Warner. There are other companies in the other offices.
Mandarian Oriental Hotel
The Mandarian Oriental Hotel has set up 251 hotel rooms and apartments in one of the towers . This means that Mandarian Oriental has occupied more than half of the one tower. In addition to the living rooms, the hotel also offers numerous conference rooms. There is also a restaurant , lounge , bar and pool with views of the New York skyline. All dining establishments are luxuriously furnished and offer views of Central Park.
Condominiums
Opposite the Mandarian Oriental Hotel are condominiums in the other tower of the Time Warner Center . Prices range from $ 1.5 million to $ 36 million. The most expensive purchase to date was made by a London banker who bought a penthouse apartment for US $ 45 million. According to research by the New York Times, other owners are said to be various controversial personalities, including former Russian Senator Vitaly Malkin , Greek insurance company Dimitrios Contominas , and Indian mining magnate Anil Agarwal . and a former deputy finance minister of the Russian Federation, Andrei Wawilow , who is said to own a 770 m² apartment. A large part of the ownership structure, however, is so veiled via front companies that even the building management does not always know which people actually bought property in the Time Warner Center.
In order for the condominiums to sell better, it is claimed that the Time Warner Center had up to 80 floors. In addition, these apartments have a different address. The building complex is usually at 10 Columbus Circle, but the condominiums are traded as One Central Park . This fictional address is intended to give the impression that the Time Warner Center is located directly on Central Park and is literally the first address. At the real address 1 Central Park West (also on Columbus Circle) there is a skyscraper ( Trump International Hotel & Tower ) by Donald Trump , which also restricts or even blocks the view of Central Park for the residents of the Time Warner Center . That's why Trump left a large poster on the facade of his building as a "little joke" saying Your views aren't so great, are they? (Your view isn't that great, is it?) That greeted condo buyers looking out the window.
