A table runner is a narrow ribbon of fabric that is usually used for decoration in combination with a tablecloth . Table runners are usually about half as wide as the covered table and are usually matched in terms of color and material to the tablecloth used as the undercloth.

Table runners are mostly made of cotton fabrics. For some time now, however, the material wool felt ( felt ) has been used more and more . Table runners with bamboo are also known from Asia. A table runner that is placed across the table ends (table head) under two opposing place settings is called tête-à-tête .
