Tobias Haslinger
Tobias Haslinger (born March 1, 1787 in Zell near Zellhof , Upper Austria ; † June 18, 1842 in Vienna ) was an Austrian music publisher and composer .
Life
Tobias Haslinger comes from a family of dyers from Bad Zell. As a choirboy in Linz he learned several instruments and worked in the music shop of the cathedral music director Franz Xaver Glöggl .
From 1810 he lived in Vienna , where he first worked as an accountant and later as a partner in Sigmund Anton Steiner's art shop , which he took over in 1826. He led the publishing house, to which a printing and engraving company was attached, to international importance. Works by Beethoven , Franz Schubert (song cycle Winterreise , composed 1827, published by Haslinger in 1828), Louis Spohr , Johann Nepomuk Hummel , Joseph Mayseder , Ignaz Moscheles , Carl Maria von Weber , Mozart , Carl Czerny , Muzio Clementi as well as the Complete works by Johann Strauss (father) published .
In 1821 Ludwig van Beethoven dedicated the musical joke O Tobias! To his publisher . WoO (work without opus) 182, a canon for three voices.
Tobias Haslinger was also active as a composer.
After his death, his son Carl successfully continued the publishing house under the name Carl Haslinger quondam Tobias . The works of the brothers Johann and Josef Strauss were published by him.
Since 1894, an alley in the 16th and 17th district of Vienna has been named Haslingergasse in honor of Tobias Haslinger .
Award
The King of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm III. awarded the kk court and private art and music dealer the great gold medal for art and science in 1836 . The Prussian embassy in Vienna presented the mark of merit to the recipient. The music dealer had dedicated a copy of Beethoven's cantata entitled The Glorious Moment to the Prussian monarch and had sent him the dedication copy .
