Tod Culpan Williams (born September 27, 1968 in New York City ) is an American director , film producer and screenwriter .

life and career

Williams, born in 1968, studied painting and literature before becoming a freelancer for the New York Times . His first film, The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, from 1998, with Adrian Grenier in the lead role, received mixed reviews and was not a huge success. His second film The Door in the Floor (2004) with Jeff Bridges , Kim Basinger and Elle Fanning in the leading roles was above all an artistic success. Williams has been nominated for two film awards: the International Literary Film Award and the Independent Spirit Awards 2005 . A major financial success, however, was Paranormal Activity 2 from 2010. In 2016, the horror thriller Puls with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson , filmed based on the novel of the same name by bestselling author Stephen King , had its premiere.

Williams was married to Famke Janssen from 1995 to 2000 and has been to Gretchen Mol since 2004 . The couple have two children.

In 2010, Tod Williams was elected a full member of the National Academy of Design . He has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters since 2009 .
