Thomas "Tom" Leigh (born February 2, 1875 in Derby ; † January 24, 1914 ibid) was an English football player .

Career

Leigh played in the reserve team of the First Division clubs Derby County and various unterklassige clubs in Derbyshire , before moving to the 1896 Second Division to Burton Swifts came. There he scored 26 goals in 72 missions in two and a half years and was his team's top scorer in the seasons 1896/97 and 1897/98. In January 1899 he was transferred to the ambitious league competitor New Brighton Tower , but could not prevail there and only made twelve appearances (4 goals) in just over a year. In March 1900 another change followed within the league to Newton Heath .

Leigh, who had the habit of fisting balls instead of beheading, was the only Newton Heath player to play all season games in the 1900/01 season and was by far the top scorer of his team with 15 goals in the league. Although the Heathens had an adequate center forward again for the first time since Henry Boyd in the 1897/98 season , surprisingly he was no longer signed up at the end of the season. Leigh then continued his career in the Southern League with New Brompton and Brentford FC .
