Tony Danza (* 21st April 1951 as Anthony Salvatore Iadanza in New York City ) is an American actor of Italian descent. He was born in 1984 with the television series Who's the Boss? known.

biography

Danza was born in Brooklyn in 1951. He graduated from the University of Dubuque in Iowa with a degree in history . In 1976 he started a career as a professional middleweight boxer. He played a total of twelve fights during his active career, nine of which he won by knockout . In 1978 he made his actor debut in the television series Taxi , in which he starred alongside Danny DeVito and Andy Kaufman . In 1979 he ended his boxing career and decided entirely to act. In 1980 he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in Taxi .

Danza had his breakthrough with the television series Who's the Boss? which ran from 1984 to 1992. He played there in 196 episodes Tony Micelli, the father of Samantha Micelli ( Alyssa Milano ). For this he received a nomination for a Golden Globe in 1986, 1987 and 1989. He was dubbed in the German version by Tommi Piper , who lends him his voice in most of the films. He was also seen in the 1998 television series A Father to Kiss (Original: The Tony Danza Show ) in 14 episodes as Tony DiMeo. From 2004 to May 2006 he hosted the talk show The Tony Danza Show . A&E Network has been broadcasting the reality documentary Teach: Tony Danza since October 2010 . From April 2011 it was shown on The Biography Channel in Germany under the title Tony Danza - A Class of Its Own .

Danza was married twice, the first marriage lasting from 1970 to 1974. The second marriage was concluded in 1986; the couple separated in 2006. The divorce took place in 2013. Danza has four children: a son (* 1970) and a daughter (* 1983) with his first wife and two daughters (* 1987 and * 1993) from a second marriage. His son Marc Anthony is a chef. Danza published a cookbook with him.
