Anthony John "Tony" Hrkac (born July 7, 1966 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and scout , who played 799 games for the St. Louis Blues , Nordiques de Quebec , San Jose Sharks , Chicago Blackhawks , Dallas Stars , Edmonton Oilers , New York Islanders , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League on the position of the center has denied. Hrkac, who won the Hobey Baker Memorial Award for the United States' best college player in 1987, celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Dallas Stars by winning the Stanley Cup in 1999 .
Career
Hrkac began his career from 1982 to 1984 in the lower class Canadian junior leagues. In the summer of 1984, he moved to the University of North Dakota to play games in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association of the National Collegiate Athletic Association while studying for the university team . He left college after a year and spent the following season with the Canadian national team . For the 1986/87 season, the Canadian returned to the University of North Dakota and led the team with 116 points in 48 games to win the national championship. Hrkac himself has been showered with awards including the Hobey Baker Memorial Award for best college player of the year.
In the same season he signed the St. Louis Blues , who had already selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 1984 in the second round in 32nd place, for the playoffs. From the 1987/88 season , the center was then part of the regular staff of the NHL squad of the Blues, before it was part of a transfer deal for the first time during the 1989/90 season and was transferred to the Nordiques de Québec . After one and a half years in the French-Canadian metropolis, he was transferred to the newly founded San Jose Sharks in exchange for Greg Paslawski , who in turn sent him to the Chicago Blackhawks after a short time . Since the Canadian there, as in San Jose, did not get a permanent place in the NHL squad, he returned as a free agent in the summer of 1993 to the St. Louis Blues. This put him in the 1993/94 season in only 36 games, and it was until the 1997/98 season before Hrkac, this time in the jersey of the Dallas Stars , played an NHL game again. As a result, he changed teams several times due to transfer deals, placements on the waiver list and contracts signed as a free agent. Between 1997 and 2004, the year he ended his career, he was a member of the Dallas Stars, the Edmonton Oilers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Nashville Predators , New York Islanders , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Atlanta Thrashers organizations . In his career, Hrkac completed 758 NHL games and posted 371 points.
In the summer of 2007, Hrkac took over the position of coach at Concordia University Wisconsin , which decided in September 2006 to include ice hockey in its sports offer. At the end of the 2008/09 season Tony Hrkac returned as an active player when he was signed by the Houston Eros from the AHL. With the Eros he reached the playoff semifinals. After this success he paused again. In March 2010, he signed a contract with the Houston Eros again and stayed there until the end of the season, before finally ending his career at the age of just under 44. For the 2015/16 season , Hrkac got a job as a scout with the Tampa Bay Lightning .
