Torfabrik is the name of the official match ball of the Bundesliga between the 2010/11 to 2017/18 seasons . The name "Torfabrik" is also used for football players who score a lot of goals, such as Gerd Müller in his day . The successor to the match ball for the 2018/19 season is the match ball Brillant APS from Derbystar .

properties

For the 2010/11 season, the ball manufactured and sold by Adidas with the name Torfabrik will officially become the uniform match ball of the Bundesliga in Germany. It is the first time in the 47-year history of the Bundesliga that a uniform match ball is used in the first and second Bundesliga . The five-year contract with Adidas is intended to generate a total of 25 million euros more income for the 36 Bundesliga clubs.

Technically, the match ball is based on the Jabulani - the official match ball of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . In the design, however, the Bundesliga logo and red elements on a white background adorn the ball. In addition, the logos of both teams playing the game are shown.

For games on a snow-covered playing field, an orange version called Torfabrik Powerorange should be used.

layout

The design of the first version is based on the design of the Adidas Jabulani and also adopted the shape of the panels. In the following season, the basic design was initially retained, but the colors changed. For the 2012/13 anniversary season , a heavily modified design was presented. The 2013/14 design consisted of silver-gray circular areas with orange accents.

A new design of the panels will be used from 2014. This now corresponds to the Adidas Brazuca .

criticism

When the ball was presented by the German Football League and Adidas, the ball received mostly positive criticism. Gerd Müller , former professional soccer player and multiple Bundesliga top scorer, as well as Thomas Müller , top scorer of the soccer world championship 2010, advocated a uniform match ball.

"Then you can adjust to it in preparation and know what to expect."

Before the Bundesliga season started, however, there were also negative reviews:

“The new pill is like a rule change by the DFL. As if the gates had been made bigger. We'll see a lot more hits and goalkeepers who look bad on the balls. "

“You just can't get used to the ball. He hooks it up as if it were a rabbit. The thing is a disaster. "

“The ball is weird. It's light and hops. It flutters even more for the goalkeepers. "
