The Torre Espacial (in German about space tower ), also called Torre de la Ciudad or Torre de la Ciudad , is a tower in the "Sector Futuro" of the amusement park of the city of Buenos Aires in the Villa Soldati district ( Argentina ). The height of the tower is 228 meters.
Law No. 3860/11 (Patrimonio Cultural) declared the tower a monument and cultural heritage of the city of Buenos Aires.
construction
The tower was pre-assembled by Waagner-Biro in Austria in 1979 and then erected in Buenos Aires from 1981 to 1982. The opening to the public took place on July 9, 1985.
The foundation of the tower is 35 meters deep by means of 30 reinforced concrete piles with a diameter of 1 meter. The above-ground part of the building consists of a hexagonal core made entirely of galvanized steel, surrounded by painted aluminum sheet with a trapezoidal profile, each of which is braced with six rollers. The design of this tower is supposed to be reminiscent of a spearhead directed towards the sky or an inverted sword.
description
The structure has a total height of 228 meters and can be seen from several locations in the greater Buenos Aires area. The visitor platform offers a panoramic view of the entire metropolitan area. The visitor platforms can be reached via two high-speed elevators, each with a capacity of 28 people. The travel time is less than a minute. The elevators were closed from November 2003.
