Toshinari Suwa ( Japanese 諏 訪 利 成 , Suwa Toshinari ; born January 29, 1977 in Isesaki , Gunma Prefecture ) is a Japanese long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon distance .

In his debut at the 2001 Nagano Marathon , he finished second in 2:16:18 hours. The following year, he improved himself to fourth in the Lake Biwa marathon to 2:09:10 h. In 2003 he finished second in the Fukuoka Marathon with a personal best of 2:07:55 h, just behind his compatriot Tomoaki Kunichika .

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he finished sixth in 2:13:24 h. In 2005 he was seventh in the London Marathon in 2:10:23 h and in 2006 fourth in the Fukuoka Marathon in 2:08:52 h. At the World Athletics Championships in 2007 in Osaka, he reached seventh place in 2:18:06 h under difficult climatic conditions, directly behind his compatriots Tsuyoshi Ogata and Satoshi Ōsaki . The Japanese team won the World Cup by a clear margin.

In 2008 Suwa finished fourth in the Tokyo Marathon in 2:09:16 h and eighth in the Berlin Marathon in 2:13:04 h.

Toshinari Suwa is 1.78 m tall and has a competition weight of 58 kg. He starts for the company team of the food company Nissin Foods .
