action

The series is about Toby Johnson, a mediocre student who lives with friends Russell and Dina in a small Australian town and goes to Sandy Bay High School there. His life changes suddenly when he and his domineering classmate Elizabeth are detained and an accident happens during a school experiment they are conducting. A frog runs over a computer keyboard and thereby randomly gives the computer the order to bombard a stone lying in an examination device with rays. The stone reflects the rays and they will (Engl. A kind of lightning flash ) hit, which causes both from now on geniuses are. As a result, they suddenly understand complicated technical relationships and have lightning ideas. At first Toby tries to prove to the people around him that he is a genius. However, since he cannot control the flashes of inspiration, he is only laughed at and tries to hide his genius instead. Elizabeth, on the other hand, wants to use her skills to her advantage and, together with her friend Verity and the thug Garth, keeps making inventions that threaten the school. Only Toby can fight them. But Elizabeth wants to rob Toby of his genius. However, at the end of the first season, both lose their skills.

In the second season, Dina leaves Sandy Bay because one of her parents works in another location. Toby's cousin Sasha is transferring to his high school. Elizabeth regains her genius and Toby has to become genius again to stop her. Toby also falls in love with the new student Nikki. This leads to complications because Elizabeth realizes that she is in love with Toby herself. There is also Nikki's brother Jack, who pretends to be interested in Elizabeth, so that he can find a way to get these flashes of inspiration and ideas and get rich with it. Therefore, both geniuses have to work together with their respective friends over and over again to shake Jack off.

characters

main characters

  • Toby Johnson is actually a normal boy. He lives alone with his father, the school caretaker, and initially wants to get rid of his genius. In a shed he invents the weirdest things to thwart Elizabeth's plans. You can almost always see him there with his friends in his spare time.
  • Elizabeth Hawke is pretty good at school and actually has a very weak, almost uninteresting personality. She wants to use her new skills to create advantages for herself that are only of special use to her, which is why she invents, for example, a makeup that adapts to the mood of the person who wears it, or wants to get Toby to get into her in various ways to fall in love. She actually only trusts herself. In addition, she has been almost sickly in love with Toby since kindergarten and when she learns that he is also a genius, she tries to convince him again and again to work with her.
  • Russell "Russ" Skinner is Toby's best friend. He likes skateboards and food (especially pizza). He knows that he is not particularly smart, but is a very good and reliable friend to Toby despite all odds.
  • Dina Demeris is Toby's best friend. Because she is clever and popular, she often gives Elizabeth the platform to attack her. At the end of the first season, she goes to Hong Kong .
  • Sasha Johnson is Toby's cousin who comes to Sandy Bay in season two. Like Dina, she is clever - she's even better than Elizabeth at school - and immediately sees through Elizabeth's machinations.
  • Verity McGuire has been Elizabeth's appendage since elementary school and does whatever she asks of her. Although she often knows that Elizabeth is going too far, she rarely dares to say anything against her, as she has extremely weak self-esteem and confidence.
  • Garth King is the school bully who targets the weak - especially Russ. At first he only works for Elizabeth because she can in return get him good grades in school, but then he likes the prospect of power and influence more and more.
  • Nikki Bailey arrives at Sandy Bay with her brother Jack at the beginning of season two. They both work in their parents' surf café. Nikki is a great athlete and very popular. She likes Toby, but initially feels repulsed by his often strange behavior.
  • Jack Bailey distrusts Toby and Elizabeth from the start. But rightly so, because at the beginning of the second season he noticed that something was not normal at school. He is first hit by an amnesia beam and immediately afterwards sees a student shrinking a giant doll with an induction lamp. Over time, he began to feel that something was wrong with Sandy Bay. When he gets to the secret, he wants to team up with Elizabeth and even pretends to be in love with her. He, too, sees only advantages in it that benefit him personally.

Minor characters

  • Bianca is Toby's great love in Season 1. For reasons unknown in the series, she can no longer be seen in the second season.
  • Professor Carl Tessla is the all science teacher at Sandy Bay High School in Season 1. One of his devices that allow you to see into stones and the hopping of a frog on the keyboard of that device were responsible for Toby and Elizabeth's change.
  • Director Alexa Vyner, is the school director in the 1st season
  • Ms. Miranda Hammer, is the school principal in Season 2
  • Mr. Nil Woods is the season 2 science teacher at Sandy Bay High School
