organization

The EDF Alpe d'Huez triathlon was founded in 2006 by the long-distance triathlon world champion Cyrille Neveu . The short and long distance triathlon has since been one of the most famous non- ITU and non- FFTRI. -Competitions in France.

From 2019 the Alpe d'Huez triathlon will be an integral part of the Europe-wide “European Triathlon League” series by “Spirit Multisport”. The newly founded series currently includes four triathlon events in four countries:

route

The triathlon is held in a long and a short distance variant. Both start with a swimming route in the Lac du Verney reservoir , the bike route ends with a Tour de France ascent of the highest category in the ski resort of Alpe d'Huez with its 21 legendary, 1120-meter bends. This is followed by a running track at an altitude of 1800 to 2000 m.

The long distance includes 2.2 km swimming, 115 km cycling and 22 km running:

On the short distance, the triathlon is 1.2 km swimming, 30 km cycling and 7 km running.
A sprint triathlon was held sporadically, which led to Vaujany.

There will also be a three-part duathlon, with a 6.5 km run from Le Bourg-d'Oisans, a 15 km mountain ride on the ascent to Alpe d'Huez and 2.5 km run at an altitude of 2000 m.

Attendees

In 2009, 671 athletes took part in the long distance (516 finishers) and 839 in the short distance (749 finishers), 62 percent of the participants were French. In 2010, two weeks before the triathlon, 943 participants were registered for the long distance triathlon and 1150 for the short distance.

The French were often able to win gold on the short distance: Delphine Pelletier , Hervé Faure , Bertrand Billard , Frédéric Belaubre and Charlotte Morel .

Charlotte Morel, U23 national champion in 2009 and 2010, won the sprint triathlon in 2007 and the sprint and short triathlon in 2008.
