Company history

Former head office and branch of the company in Krefeld

The company was founded by Udo Täubrich. In 1978 the first beverage pick-up market was opened in Duisburg and three years later the first market. In 1999, the company's own wholesaler of drinking logistics was put into operation. The 100th trinkgut store was opened in 2001, and the new headquarters in Krefeld were moved into two years later. The company founder died in 2004. The company was then continued by his daughter Alexandra Toeller together with her husband Torsten Toeller . In the following year, with the help of larger subsidies, the construction of a new logistics center began in Hamm , which went into operation in 2006. In the same year, the 200th beverage market was opened.

In 2007 Torsten Toeller acquired the remaining 50% of Trinkgut and was therefore the sole owner.

Until 2009, Rewe Dortmund had a 25 percent stake in Trinkgut and also took over the logistics for the company. The cooperation in the area of purchasing groceries and articles for the additional range was replaced in 2008 by a cooperation with Bünting Commerce and Services (BHD), a subsidiary of the Bünting Group . Bünting bundles the purchasing volume of drinkable goods for the product groups wine, sparkling wine, spirits, confectionery as well as food and non-food promotional items. Billing is done by Markant Germany.

On March 9, 2010 Torsten Toeller announced the sale of beverages; If the competent cartel office agrees, Trinkgut will continue to be taken over by Edeka as an independent company. In 2010 there were 233 beverage markets. The takeover by Edeka Handelsgesellschaft Rhein-Ruhr mbH, based in Moers , was approved by the Federal Cartel Office on October 28, 2010, subject to conditions.

After the takeover by Edeka Handelsgesellschaft Rhein-Ruhr , Trinkgut does not continue its expansion course. At the end of 2011, the company only had 214 branches. Other beverage markets are in liquidation. The turnover of the 214 Trinkgut stores in 2011 was 501 million euros. After the takeover, many TOP, EDEKA and MARKTKAUF beverage stores were converted to drinkable goods or, when new ones opened, were opened from the outset in an EDEKA drinkable goods combination.

Own brands

Trinkgut's own brands are the beers “ Traugott Simon ” and “Oscar Maxxum” as well as the mineral water products “Leonie”, “Aqua +”, “Clarissa” and “Mona”. In addition, non-alcoholic drinks are offered under Edeka's own brands, such as Gut & Cheap or Booster. There are also several own brands of spirits.
