The Truse is a 18 km long right tributary of the Werra on the southwest slope of the Thuringian Forest .

It rises as island water on the southern slope of the Großer Inselsberg on the Rennsteig and flows through the villages of Brotterode , Trusetal and Fambach , before finally flowing into the Werra at Breitungen, district of Herrenbreitungen .

The artificially created Trusetal waterfall , fed by the water from the Truse, is the highest waterfall in the Thuringian Forest.

Since the Middle Ages, the Truse has been indispensable for the operation of a large number of mills, hammer mills and smelters.
